Graphic Design 2.1: Professional Practice, Project 8: Tutor Feedback and Reflection

R1: This is a thorough piece of work with valid points being made.

E1: Your reworking of your earlier Shining book cover shows a much improved design process. You have explored a variety of solutions and supported these with relevant research. Your design decisions have resulted in sophisticated solutions that have retained and developed the content of the book. Final solution 1 has a real ‘grittiness’ about it with the colour palette that you have used.

E2: Your visual research is really intriguing and shows that you are expanding your influences. Your visual experimentation with acetate and layering is an excellent start to your design development process. The phrase ‘perfect is boring’ is apt for the mat and your final solutions are both visually interesting. How would they look with feet on them obscuring some of the design?

  • This would be an interesting mock up/visual to explore.

CR3: This is starting to come together an you have identified how it will develop with relevant content and examples. Ass8 has, as usual, shown thorough and relevant research. You have shown an experimental approach to your type and layout and focussed on playful visual solutions. Each month shows its own character and the colour choices help to lead us through the year. Your client responses are very well considered. The black solution still retains the impact of the designs and the combined type and date solution is another good option. You could also try option 3 – printing in black on a decent coloured paper stock. This would mean that you could also do some paper research.
