Graphic Design 2.1: Professional Practice, Project 5: Tutor Feedback and Reflection

E1: very good research and analysis leading to very appropriate idea generation and logo development and application. The drink has a refined and calming feel.

R3: You have thought very carefully about how to leave feedback and what to write about Ellie’s work. This moved you out of your comfort zone effectively and helped you take on a more analytical and critical role.

  • I struggled with this feedback but it also helped me review my own work/give myself my own feedback.

As usual your research is very thorough and appropriate. You have looked at a full range of examples of different types of games. The hidden chess identity is a really interesting theme to pursue. Your note-taking, idea generation and research gathering have really helped to develop your concept. The links showing visual inspiration have identified some striking examples – the vibrant blue and orange poster is a particularly good find. Think back to these examples, and colour schemes, when creating your final designs. With your own image and symbol manipulation you have shown a good deal of experimentation. Where the fingerprints are overlaid on the orange-red head this works well due to its simplicity. With your repeat paper for the box you could test using different sizes for different elements. This might eliminate the visual confusion I have when I look at it. At the moment I focus on the sunglasses and the umbrellas so I then think about weather or travel. This might just be me… you could test it on other people to see. Emphasising the question marks, arrows and magnifying glasses might also solve this. I would also suggest testing other colourways as this might signify hidden elements more. Camouflage and (razzle) dazzle camouflage might be good starting points for this. This might also hide the visually confusing (to me) elements a bit more.

  • I have gone back to this task and implemented feedback here.
