Core Concepts- Exercise 1: Charades

Exercise 1: Charades

For this exercise you will need to find a friend or family member to help you. You are going to play a game of charades in which you try and communicate the name of a TV programme, film or book using only drawing.

I found this exercise fun and very interesting. Despite my poor drawings (me and my girlfriend decided on a 1 minute time limit per drawing) most were guessed correctly. The ones that weren’t; Doctor Who, American Psycho, were the ones that didn’t have direct ‘symbols’ or iconic images that could easily describe them unlike Star Wars for example. Even though some were very easy, I suppose it goes to show you can communicate exactly what you want through just images, even if it’s as simple as a timeline. It has also showed me that you have to think about who you’re producing something for, as maybe if we’d of decided on which films we could choose from prior to drawing them, it would have been easier to get more right as my girlfriend could of related to it. It also forced me to think about what information to include and what to leave out, the time limit to draw forced this process to be quicker.
